Walking By Faith

"Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?" Then he rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm." - Matthew 8:26

These words from Jesus have recently been on my mind.

As fourth year of university approaches, I'm faced with many big decisions regarding the future. Where to live. What to do. These questions are so often hovering in my mind, "God, what's your will for my life?", and more specifically, "God, how can I devote my life to serving you?". It's not all easy, with a mix of all the distractions from the world; fame, prestige, money, security, certainty. It's easy for us to turn to what's most secure, to go with what seems easiest, to stay with what seems most comfortable.

The future appears to be a whole world of uncertainty in my mind, but I'm constantly reminded that with Christ it's certain. There looks to be a narrow pathway and at the end of the pathway, there is a storm waiting for me but Jesus is at the entrance holding out His hand inviting me rely on His strength. God has challenged to think back and reflect on the times where seemingly there was no certainty in my life, everything was out of my control, but yet God provided in ways only He could orchestrate it. Where would I go to university? What would I being doing each summer? Guess what, looking back, God had every single detail in control. What do I have to fear? If God is for us, who can be against us? My faith is not to rest on my own wisdom, but in the power of God. 

My prayer is that my Father in heaven would help gain confidence to say as David did,

You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore."  - Psalm 16:11

No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

Forward Looking

God's promises are real, true, and everlasting. I'm currently working my way through Revelations in my quiet time and these particular verses keep coming back to me. These verses continue to remind me of what the future holds, not the temporary life on Earth, but eternal glory that is to be revealed to us in the presence of God. To give some context, this is describing the Christians who have been saved by the blood of Christ and are now before God. 

 “Therefore they are before the throne of God,
and serve him day and night in his temple;
and he who sits on the throne will shelter them with his presence.
 They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore;
 the sun shall not strike them,
nor any scorching heat.
 For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd,
and he will guide them to springs of living water,
and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes"

Revelations 7:15-17

Glory of the Gospel

As I begin to reflect on the past few months and begin this blog post, I've realized how bad I am at putting my thoughts into proper sentences.  After thinking through what God has taught me over the past 4 months, and it is difficult to pinpoint one thing in particular as it seems there was just so much. God has graciously challenged me in so many different areas of my life. I guess that's hard to believe, considering I've been almost travelling non-stop and many people wonder if I even went to school. Regardless, I'll do my best to organize my thoughts.

God has continually shown me His majesty and his greatness along with my weakness and sinfulness. And through those two things, magnified what the gospel meant. His majesty is shown to this world in countless ways and forms, but experiencing His creation truly touches my heart. Have you ever experienced the feeling while standing atop a mountain or by the beach and you tell yourself "wow!". This same God who created the heavens and the earth, also created me, knows my name, loves me...despite all of my iniquities. 

Throughout my time on Europe, God showed me my sinfulness in so many different ways, truly humbling me. Yes, I wouldn't claim that I'm perfect, but sometimes I go, "I'm not too shabby either". God said "NO." An example of him showing my sinfulness to me - during my quiet time, I would reflect on the sins I've been struggling with and come before God asking for forgiveness. That same day I would find myself committing the very same sins and at that point the thought in my head is, "I can't even face God right now". Another example would be the times when I was travelling with others, often there were things I wanted to do, places I wanted to see, it was like the whole world had to be revolved around me - what selfishness. It is in these moments, the beauty of the gospel shines even more. In no way do I even come close to deserving what Christ had done on the cross, but yet salvation is free to everyone who believes in Christ. 

The combination of my disgusting sinfulness and the glory of the holy God, makes the gospel almost unbelievable - and that's amazing.

The Story.

This is the beginning of a new blog. Separate from my other blog which is mainly dedicated to photography, I hope this blog will inform those around me of how God continues to work in my life. 

Thinking about how blessed I am to know Christ, and all that He has done in my life so that I can have a relationship with Him despite . It's nothing that I've done, and it's not something I even come close to deserving, but by the grace of God, Christ died on the cross so that we can be saved. 

My prayer is that through this blog, I can share what God continues to teach me, and that each post would be a small encouragement for those who are in Christ, And for those who do not yet know Jesus, that the posts may perhaps be a small stepping stone towards receiving salvation. Ultimately, I hope that directly or indirectly, this is one way in which I play a part in making the Gospel known to more people. 

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
